Lofstedt Coaching

Growing math educators. Supporting math learners.

“Mathematics is a tool for empowerment, and everyone deserves access to it.”

— Dr. Edray Goins

About Joe

As an educator with over a decade of experience, I have seen firsthand the impact that a lack of support can have on teachers and ultimately on their students. It is disheartening to see teachers who are passionate and dedicated to their work become burnt out and disillusioned because they are not receiving the support they need to thrive. It was this realization that led me to start Lofstedt Coaching in order to support educator with teaching mathematics.

At Lofstedt Coaching, we believe that strong school math programs are built on the foundation of reflective and supported educators. That's why we focus on providing mindset coaching that addresses math identity and deficit thinking. This focus allows for us to do the important work of supporting teachers and leaders in becoming math experts. There are too many educators who believe they are not ‘math people"‘ and that impacts their planning and instruction.

We support all educators; teachers, instructional coaches, and school leaders, to align their planning and actions with their beliefs about students.

We believe all educators are math people.

My experiences as a principal, director of Instructional Coaching and Curriculum Implementation, founder, and teacher have helped me develop and solidify my core values: integrity, equity, empathy, and curiosity. I have seen firsthand the power of these values in action, and I believe that they are essential for creating positive and lasting change in the education system.

At Lofstedt Coaching, we are committed to providing educators with the support and resources they need to unlock their math brilliance and create positive change in their schools and communities.

What our Math People are Saying

  • I have had the awesome pleasure to work alongside Mr. J. Lofstedt over the last three years. Mr. Lofstedt has served as my Educational Coach. Mr. Lofstedt always pushes my knowledge in learning our literacy and math curriculum. Mr. Lofstedt respects my prior knowledge and education and helps me to bring all that I know and all that I am learning together to benefit the children and families that we serve. I think one of the most helpful characteristics of Mr. Lofstedt as a coach is his ability to make me feel secure in the work that I do and to encourage and SHOW me ways to stretch my thinking and learning. I contribute a lot of my success as a kindergarten teacher to Mr. Lofstedt's commitment to being a coach who is always pleasant, present and openminded.

    -Cymie, Kindergarten Teacher

  • Joe’s coaching has helped me more than I could have imagined. His kind and nonjudgmental demeanor helped me to open up about where I was struggling and his clarifying questions led me to readjust the way I was looking at my original problem. He asked questions that helped me understand how I was struggling from a whole different perspective and posed possible solutions to help me find the best fit for me and my staff.

    -Jess, Education Advocate

  • Mr. Lofstedt is a phenomenal coach, focusing his work on both improving inputs and outputs for teachers. He runs lesson internalizations with teachers to make sure they know the standards and criteria for success for the lessons they are teaching and that they’ve brainstormed scaffolds for anticipated misconceptions. After observing lessons in action and giving real-time feedback, he also helps teachers dive into the student work to analyze the gaps and embed a reteach plan into upcoming lessons. The coaching cycle continues to have maximum impact on both teacher and student growth.

Our Approach to supporting math instruction

At our organization, we firmly believe that addressing math identity and deficit thinking is essential to ensuring high-quality content is being taught to our students. We strive to support all educators in this mission, including teachers, instructional coaches, and school leaders.

For teachers, we work to ensure that their classroom planning and actions align with their beliefs about their students. This not only leads to a more positive mindset around math, but also to improved student outcomes.

We support instructional coaches, recognizing the important role they play in supporting teachers. Through our coaching, we help instructional coaches develop the skills and knowledge they need to effectively support their teachers in promoting positive math identities, addressing deficit thinking and ensuring that high-quality math content is being taught in classrooms.

Finally, we work with school leaders to ensure that their actions and long-term planning align with and support high-quality math instruction. By providing the necessary resources and support, we can help create a culture where all educators are equipped to support their students in achieving math success.

School and System Leadership Development and Coaching

I'm dedicated to helping system leaders, principals, deputy principals, and other aspiring leaders accomplish their objectives in terms of learning, culture, and development. I aim to equip these people with the tools they need to manage their organizations more effectively through coaching and professional development.

I am passionate about assisting educational leaders in overcoming challenges and achieving their goals because I have a thorough grasp of the difficulties they currently face. By collaborating with them, I hope to increase their capacity, develop their abilities, and give them the freedom to make choices that will promote academic success and a positive learning atmosphere.

Instructional Coaching

Working with teachers is one of my greatest joys. Teachers are the foundation of our educational system and have the ability to improve the lives of students on a regular basis.

I offer teachers individualized support and guidance through one-on-one or group coaching that is customized to their unique needs and objectives. I am committed to working cooperatively with teachers to help them realize their full potential, whether it be by enhancing instructional strategies, increasing student involvement, or enhancing assessment practices.

Additionally, I provide whole-school subject study sessions with the goal of fostering a common comprehension of important ideas and abilities. These sessions give educators the chance to work together and share knowledge, fostering a culture of development and improvement.

I assist teachers by analyzing data and using it to guide teaching and improve student outcomes. We can pinpoint areas of strength and weakness, create focused interventions, and modify teaching to meet the needs of all learners by analyzing student data.

Observations and coaching in real time are also important parts of my assistance for teachers. I aid teachers in improving their practices and implementing immediate changes to teaching by observing classroom activities and giving immediate feedback.

Who do I work with?

Working with educational leaders who are devoted to reflecting on and enhancing instructional strategies is something I am passionate about. For our educational system to change for the better and guarantee that all students receive a top-notch education, I think that this job is crucial.

The managers I work with are enthusiastic about their jobs and constantly looking for methods to improve their procedures. They are receptive to criticism and prepared to question their own perspectives in order to advance and develop. I am able to give these leaders the support and direction they require to accomplish their objectives and have the greatest effect by working with them.

I collaborate with leaders who also think that genuine change cannot take place in a vacuum. Together with families, students, teachers, and the larger community, we must carry out this task. We can develop a common vision for education and cooperate to realize it by working together and establishing relationships with these stakeholders.

I'm dedicated to collaborating with school administrators who recognize the value of creating an environment that encourages a love of learning and supports the various requirements of every student. Working together with these leaders, I hope to develop a climate of development and improvement that is beneficial to students, teachers, and the community at large.

My objective is to support educational leaders in their initiatives to promote change and enhance teaching methods. Together, we can change education and give every student a better future.
